While you can have lots of fun dying eggs in numerous ways and using them to make fun Easter crafts and decorations did you know that you can also use the shells in some fun Easter egg creations? There is no reason to throw away your colored shells (even after the eggs have been eaten). You can use your Easter eggs in some fun and creative projects that only lengthen the fun of Easter. These Easter crafts can be done in an afternoon or can be part of an Easter craft party. Either way you will have lots of fun making them! So for some fresh new Easter craft ideas here are some ideas for Easter egg shell creations-
Chick in an Egg- This creative craft uses the halves of the egg that are left after you break open the egg. This craft works best using a raw egg that has been broken open rather then a blown or hard boiled egg.
What you will need:
Cotton balls
Egg shells
Glue gun
Paper
Black and orange paint
Paintbrush
Instructions for the project: Take the two cotton balls and glue them together. Take the egg, crack it and make sure all of the insides are cleaned out and then wash it well. You will want to make sure the egg is in equal halves as much as possible. Take the cotton balls and glue them to the inside of the dried egg. Using the glue gun make two little dots as eyes on the cotton balls and paint them black. Take a piece of paper and cut out a beak and paint it orange then glue it on.
Shell Mosaic- This colorful craft is a great one for young crafters who do not need any advanced crafting skills to make this.
What you will need:
Colored Egg Shells
Poster board
Glue
Instructions for the project: The first step is to make sure that you save all the shells you peel off your Easter eggs! Using your hands or something heavy break the colored egg shell pieces into small enough pieces so that they are fairly flat. Have the child draw a design on a dark piece of poster board. Using a cotton swab or an old paint brush and working in small sections liberally spread glue onto your design. Carefully stick the eggshell pieces, colored side up, onto the glue. Continue with this process until your design is completely filled in with egg shells. Set the mosaic aside to dry completely.
Tips:
For very young children you can let them simply apply the eggshells however they want without drawing a design on first.
Egg Shell Candy Dish- This delightful dish can offer Easter treat to family and friends. In order to keep the dish from year to year you will need to varnish the shells and pack it away carefully.
What you will need:
A plastic or glass candy dish with a wide rim or flat base
Broken egg shells (they can be colored or white)
Craft glue
Instructions for the project: Take the egg shells (either peeled off of your colored Easter eggs or white ones) and break them into small enough pieces that they lay flat. Liberally apply the glue where you want the eggshells attached and begin laying on the eggshells. This works best if you work on one section at a time. After you finish you can add additional decoration if you want (glitter, jewels etc) and cover the egg shells with a layer of varnish to help them stick. Let the dish dry completely.

The beginning of the school year is perfect to introduce preschool classroom decorating ideas. Most children at this age are not exactly sure what to expect when they start this new adventure called Preschool.
They have some idea if they have had exposure to television, movies or children's books or even older siblings but it still has room for wonder.
My preference is to start a bulletin board or wall that is for and by the children. You will begin with an area marked off that will be the "creation center". You will use this creation center throughout the school year as their personal mural space. You can cover this with large butcher paper, an old sheet, cork squares...whatever you wish. Use this area throughout the year for different themes.
The most important aspect of this area is that this is their personal group display for their classroom. Children enjoy having responsibility and contributions to their class.
The first week of school is ideal to show them how you need their help in thinking of preschool classroom decorating ideas. Take a photo of each child on the first day, or have them draw a self portrait if a camera is not available. You will need to label the pictures with their names. These will be used later on.
You can suggest ideas for the board at the beginning because some children may be shy or hesitant at such an undertaking. Ask if they would like the area to have a street with a large school bus on it, or if they would like to have a playground with swing sets on it? These are just to get started. Let them know that it needs to be a setting where each child's picture can be displayed. This will help them out coming up with ideas of their own.
Next, use your week to create the idea they decide upon. If, for example, you are doing a school bus scene, you can teach them about the colors and shapes needed to create a large school bus with many windows (enough windows for each child). You can create a classroom setting with large round circles for the tables and squares for student chairs. Place a photo at each chair.
You can see that this is an area that can be used year round. The only bounds are your imagination!
I have used this area for holiday displays, seasonal displays, ocean themes, gardening themes, all about me displays and so many more.
Try these preschool classroom decorating ideas this year. Use it as a starting point for any of your preschool themes or units and you will enjoy the enthusiasm of your preschoolers and their willingness to learn and participate.

This was just what I was looking for. The product worked very well at keeping the puzzle pieces in place. I would recommend this product to anyone who is looking for an easy way to put a puzzle together without taking up space on a dining room table.

There are approximately 3,000 Peru holidays and festivals celebrated each year. Peru celebrates the widely known holidays like Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Easter, Christmas and New Year, but most of the celebrations are for a particular saint. Most of these saints are a combination of Catholic and Andean religious traditions.
The typical work-week in Peru lasts for six days, which is probably one of the reasons why there are so many holidays. Many Peruvians get the day off on holiday, called feriado, which is usually spent drinking one of Peru's top beers: cristal, cusqueña or pilsen.
Most Peruvians love to drink. They'll treat personal celebrations and events with as much fervor as national holidays. Drinks are passed around on birthdays, family and friend gatherings, baptisms, sporting events, weddings, baby showers and even at funerals! It is very common to find fiestas throughout Peru, accompanied by not only drinks, but traditional and modern dances.
When planning a vacation to Peru you may wish to include Peru holidays in your itinerary. There are Peru holidays and festivals throughout the year, with those in June and July in Cuzco being the most popular with tourists.
January
Of course New Year is celebrated in Peru, especially as it is one of the Peru holidays that provides an excellent opportunity to drink. The party starts on December 31st with rounds of beer and lots of food. At the stroke of midnight there is champagne and a toast, accompanied by hugs and goodwill. Twelve grapes are eaten by each person, one for each month of the year, with a secret wish. Then the fireworks start and the beer drinking begins anew for most of January 1st.
February
For eighteen days Puno celebrates the Fiesta de la Virgen de la Candelaria. Hundreds of groups of musicians and dancers accompany huge amounts of food and fireworks on February 2nd when a procession carries the virgin image through the city. The dance of the demons has dancers wearing devil masks make offerings to Pachamama, the Earth Goddess. For the farewell the dancers are followed into the cemetery to pay homage to the dead.
Carnival is a National holiday celebrated for the entire month of February. This is when people get wet, really wet. People arm themselves with squirt guns, water balloons and buckets of water with the goal to get as many people wet as possible. In most places it is illegal to celebrate carnival on weekdays as people going to work would complain to the government about getting soaked. Cajamarca is especially enthusiastic about carnival, organizing several activities for Peru holidays during two weeks in February.
Lunahuana hosts the International Festival of Adventure Sports. People from all over the world come to see and participate in kayaking, rock wall climbing, paragliding and other adventure or outdoor sports. The festival's dates change, but it is always held in February.
March - April
In March or April Peru holidays center around Semana Santa, or Holy Week, which generally begins on the Thursday before Easter Sunday and continues through Easter. Traditionally, drinking is shunned during Semana Santa except for wine, and meat should not be eaten except for fish. Several stores will not sell alcohol on these four days, but many Peruvians still find a way to drink, especially on Saturday and Easter Sunday. There are Holy Week processions in most Peruvian cities starting from the Plaza de Armas or Main Square. Ayacucho hosts the most famous Semana Santa celebrations which start on the Friday before Palm Sunday. In Ayacucho it is traditionally believed that Christ is dead during the week until Easter Sunday, therefore sin does not exist during that time.
Cuzco celebrates the Lord of the Earthquakes on Easter Monday which blends Christian and Andean traditions. The Procession is to pay homage to Taitacha Temblores, as it is believed that an oil painting of Christ stopped an earthquake in the year 1650.
May
On the 1st of May el Dia de los Trabajadores (Labor Day) is celebrated Nationally by taking the day off from work and drinking. From the 2nd to the 4th Puno holds the Alarcitas Handicrafts Fair Dia de Santa Cruz. At this time hundreds of sellers gather together to sell thousands of handmade items like alpaca wool sweaters, jewelry, paintings, tapestries, wood crafts and scores of imaginative items from Peru and Bolivia.
June
This month is when Peru holidays really start to pick up. Corpus Christi is a national holiday which has basically been taken over by Cuzco. Hundreds of people crowd around the Plaza de Armas to see several Processions including the Processions of the Saints and of the Virgins accompanied by dancers in various traditional dress.
Inti Raymi celebrates the Inca Sun God on June 24th. Beginning early in the day at Koricancha (the Temple of the Sun) and the Plaza de Armas in Cuzco city, the celebration then moves to the Incan Sacsayhuaman structure at about noon. Thousands of people gather to see the recreation of an ancient Inca celebration of dances and worship to the Sun God in which two llamas are sacrificed.
July
In the town of Paucartambo, just a few hours from Cuzco, La Virgen del Carmen is celebrated for five days, with it's main day being July 16th. Traditional dances, costumes and homage to the dead are observed.
July 28th to the 29th marks Peru's Independence Day which calls for more drinking and fireworks across the country. The large water fountain at the Plaza de Armas in Lima is filled by the Municipality with 2,000 liters of the alcoholic drink Pisco for everyone to enjoy for free.
Cuzco is especially crowded during most of June and July to celebrate. There are several Peru holidays in Cuzco with processions, artisans lay out their handicrafts, street vendors sell a huge assortment of food and bands make live performances. During these times Cuzco gets so crowded that it can be difficult to walk just a couple of blocks.
August
In the seventeenth-century a Lima resident named Isabel Flores de Oliva earned fame for caring for the sick and shunning sin. Those searching for a miracle visit her shrine in downtown Lima. Her festival, El Dia de Santa Rosa de Lima, is celebrated on August 30th throughout the country, especially in Santa Rosa de Quives in the department of Lima.
September
From the 22nd to the 25th Juliaca celebrates Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes in honor of the town's Saint Patroness in which fairs, dances and folk acts are held.
Trujillo organizes the International Spring Festival in the 4th week of September. Once again, there are drinking, folk shows and dancing, but this time there are visits from American and European beauty queens. Bullfighting and the Peruvian Stepping Horses contests are also held.
October
On October 8, 1879 a naval battle was fought between Peru and Chili. This National holiday is remembered as the Combate Naval de Angamos.
From the 18th to the 28th is El Señor de los Milagros (The Lord of Miracles), the most important of all the Peru holidays in October. This is largely a procession in honor of a slave from Angola who drew the image of a black Christ in Pachacamilla near Lima. Although there had been several attempts to erase it, the image stubbornly stayed on the wall. Tens of thousands participate in the procession every year. Believers carry two tons of remains that bore the painting and walk for twenty-four hours starting from the church Las Nazarenas, through downtown Lima, and finally to the church La Marced in Barrios Altos. Bullfighting season also starts in October to commemorate The Lord of Miracles.
La Noche de Las Brujas, or Halloween, is loosely celebrated on October 31st. Some attention is paid to trick-or-treating for the children.
November
All Saints Day is celebrated on the first, with All Souls Day following on the second. Peruvians may attend mass and visit cemeteries in memory of the dead, especially loved ones.
Puno, the folkloric center of Peru, has many Peru holidays. It's founding is celebrated on the 4th and 5th called Puno Days. There are military parades, drinking and dancing. A procession of masked dancers celebrate the Inca legend of when Manco Capac, the first king of Cuzco, and his sister and wife Mama Occlo, rose out of Lake Titicaca.
December
The Feast of the Immaculate Conception on the 8th is celebrated by two of the things that Peruvians love most - great food and lots of beer. Christmas celebrations begin on the 24th when the drinking starts. At midnight the official party begins, sometimes gifts will be exchanged, but there will always be a round of champagne.

This Easter weekend in Guyana,my homeland, thousands of people, young and old will turn out to fly kites. It is a vivid kaleidescope of color and light,a warm, friendly family outing that give many children an important bonding experience with their parents.
I have been unable to find the origins of this national event in Guyana. None of the neighboring countries in South America and the Caribbean have similar mass kite flying. It has been suggested that Guyanese kite flying is their way of celebrating the risen Christ. In multi-cultural Guyana Kite flyers are not only Christian but Muslim and Hindu. Our nation of six peoples have among them people who originally came from China and India--two countries which have long kite flying traditions.
In Jamaica, where I lived for many years, Easter is associated with bun and cheese eating. The Easter Bun is loaf sized and spicy. Our minds have tremendous associative power.Easter brings images of kite flying,Palm Sunday processions,Hot Cross Buns, Good Friday Fish meals and Jamaican Easter Buns. This is a fusion of my years in Guyana and Jamaica.
Guyanese hot cross buns are small and round with a cross on them.I guess we inherited them from our British masters. As Easter Weekend kite flying is unique to Guyana so are Jamaican Easter Buns which, as far as I know ,are only available in Jamaica or in large Jamaican communities.
My mind goes back to the 80's when I watched in fascination as our 'helper' Maureen made Easter Buns. It was a production that included stout, raisins, eggs, mixed spice, nutmeg and cinnamon.Jamaican Easter Buns are traditionally eaten with processed cheese available in large cans.
My childhood memories of kite flying Kite Flying in Guyana are of getting up at 5 a.m to be ready by six o'clock so that we could get a good space on the sea wall that protected the city of Georgetown from the Atlantic. My mind dredges up snap shots of a stark blue sky filled with many thousands of colorful dots swaying in the Atlantic breezes. Thre are other shots of long kite tails sky dancing, buzzing falling kites, the thrill of reeling out twine, hoisting kites, tangled twine and kite tails.
Many societies claim to be the first kite flyers -China,India and the South pacific islanders are among the most persistent claimers. The most famous kite flying story I know is about is Ben Franklin's experiment to prove that lightning is electricity by flying a kite in a storm. Please don't attempt to replicate this dangerous experiment!
This Easter Guyanese around the world will bond if you mention kite flying. For Jamaicans wherever they live Easter will not be Easter without bun and cheese.Simple images, everyday actions that bring people together making them feel special.

Most homeowners don't have large blocks of time to refresh their homes to welcome holiday guests. Fortunately, with a few simple fixes, any home can be a holiday haven of hospitality. Here are some ideas on how to prepare for the holidays whether north or south of the Equator
Start by entering your home the way guests would enter. Go outside to the front sidewalk and take a good look at the house. Is the lightbulb burned out over the porch? Are the porch corners full of spider webs (and Halloween is long past)? Has dirt collected on the sidewalk and the porch? In short, does the front of the home need a good cleaning and sprucing up? Then get out the broom, the snow shovel, the ladder, the clippers for dead branches, and any other tools needed to give the front of the house a good cleanup. Invest in a new welcome mat or choose a handsome outdoor rug in a holiday theme.
Next, if you're in the part of the world where it's cold when Christmas comes, freshen up those scraggly looking planters. Toss the dried-up chrysanthemums of autumn. Replace them with a few pots of poinsettias or some evergreen swags or sprays. Be sure to tie big red bows around the plants. Pots of poinsettias or other vivid flowers also may work in places where Christmas comes during summer vacation
Now step inside the door and take another good look. Does the entryway look like a whirlwind has blown through? If so, get a big trash bag and gather up all the mail and magazine, mittens and Macintoshes lying about (or surfboards and sandals in the Global South). Hang them up or store them somewhere until the guests depart. And recycle all those outdated paper publications and mail adverts. And get a nice oval rug or other area rug for guests to step on as they come through the door.
Speaking of hanging things up, is there room in the coat closet for your guests' jackets? Make a space on the clothes rod for their coats, or move some of the family's gear to a bedroom temporarily. Don't overlook making space on the floor for boots, overshoes, umbrellas or other weather-related gear.
So your guests are inside the house; now where are they going to sit? If you're having more guests than you have living room seating, grab some chairs from the dining room, bedrooms, den or home office or even a few folding chairs from the closet. Don't worry about the furniture arrangement. Instead, put extra chairs out so that everyone can join in conversation or group games. When it's time to eat, get everyone to bring a chair back into the dining room.
Don't stress out trying to do a massive top-to-bottom cleaning, even if your guests are staying over. Instead, engage all the family members to do a quick once-over around the house before the guests arrive while you make certain that the guest bedroom and bath are in tip-top shape. Cleaning can wait until the guests depart.
Finally, rather than spending hours putting up holiday decorations, set the mood by placing lots of candles all around the house. Light the candles, dim the lights, and everyone will feel festive immediately!

Making your Easter basket for kids in 2009 is going to be great fun for the whole family but there are a few things to keep in mind too. Things like safety and durability are the major concerns.
Putting Child Safety First
When creating you personalized Easter basket for kids one of the concerns that needs to be considered when buying the basket is putting the safety of the child first
When your child finds an Easter egg or other surprise in the garden, they can use their personalized Easter egg basket to protect their treasures.
Don't forget that the basket needs to be robust enough to carry as many Easter eggs and goodies that you have taken the time to hide in the garden. Otherwise the items that they find could fall out and rediscovered by another child on the same hunt.
When choosing your personalized Easter egg basket for your kids, due attention must be paid to the makeup of the handles especially. This is because an overloaded basket may break at the handles exposing the sharp edges of their Easter basket.
When out in the stores choosing your basket, due care and attention should be paid to the type of material that may splinter or rip that may cause injury to your child.
How Strong is your Easter Basket
If you choose to buy a strong and durable personalized Easter basket for kids then not only can you be more confident that your child will be safe, but you can also use the basket for other items such as flowers for Mother's, or Christmas care baskets for family and friends.
If you only need your personalized Easter basket for kids to last for this year only, then I would advise finding a relatively cheap one that still conforms to all the aforementioned safety tips.
For myself, about 5 years ago I chose to buy my personalized Easter basket for kids from a quality store. This has meant that I have been able to use and use again the basket for many other craft ideas.
